Coffee wakes us up. It gets us ready for the day and our mountain of work. But, it is also good for your skin. The homemade coffee body scrub contains many antioxidant properties, which can help reduce free radical damage to the skin.
The rough texture of the beans acts as an exfoliant and is a bit less harsh than other materials such as sea salt. When the dead skin cells are rubbed away, it not only makes the skin feel softer but also increases blood flow.
There have also been studies to show that caffeic acid may help build collagen and firm the skin, preventing premature aging. It can help to tackle scarring, stretch marks, and eczema. Combining this with the natural coconut oil, which acts as an efficient moisturizer, will leave your skin feeling refreshed.

DIY Coffee Scrub
For the below method, fresh coffee grounds are best, but it is actually a great way to use up any used grounds too once they have dried. Fine grounds are also best, as they are less harsh on the skin.
It is safe to use on the face.
You will need:
- ½ cup coffee grounds
- ½ cup melted coconut oil
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Method:
- Mix together the coffee grounds and sugar
- Add the melted coconut oil and vanilla extract and combine
- Gently rub all over the body, avoiding sensitive parts, and leave on for a few minutes
- Rinse off thoroughly with warm water, and a final blast of cold water to feel fresh
Notes
Be careful – the oil can make the bath or shower a bit slippery
You can add any other essential oils you wish, such as lavender for calming or tea tree for acne
