Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain’s oldest and best-respected wine merchant, having been located at 3 St James’s Street since 1698. This exclusive private evening at Britain’s most historic wine destination includes a wine tasting conducted by one of their renowned experts.
Experience Through TRULY
Private Dining with the Wine Experts
Located at 3 St James’s Street, Berry Bros. & Rudd’s legendary wine shop has changed little since the 17th century; maintaining a belief in traditional standards of service, storage and provenance.
Such is the reputation of Berry Bros., the company began supplying wine to the British Royal Family during King George III’s reign – and has continued to do so until the present day. Today, Berry Bros. & Rudd hold two Royal Warrants for HM The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales. Boasting more Masters of Wine than any other company on the planet, the wine knowledge embedded in Berry Bros. is unrivalled.
Behind the shop is Pickering Place, a historic and tranquil courtyard hidden in the hustle and bustle of St James’s. The square was completed by the Berry family in 1734, comprising four houses which have survived to this day. One of these, named The Townhouse, attaches onto the back of the shop.
For the duration of this experience, The Townhouse is entirely reserved for your exclusive group, which can consist of up to ten people (or as few as you desire). Upon your arrival at Pickering Place, you will be shown to an intimate sitting room within The Townhouse, where a Berry Bros. & Rudd expert will conduct a unique wine tasting.
Whilst remaining educational and interesting, this private tutored wine tasting will be informal and entertaining. For all their historic and royal importance, the focus at Berry Bros. remains firmly on the enjoyment of wine, with chairman Simon Berry quoted as saying that “the point about wine is that it’s all about having fun”.
This fascinating tasting consists of six different premium wines split into three pairs, each of one French wine and one New World wine. The Berry Bros. expert will provide deep insight into the contrast between the French wines and New World wines, lasting around an hour in total.
Your group will then proceed upstairs to the Long Room, for a delicious 3-course dinner. Your meal will be prepared by Berry Bros. & Rudd head chef Stewart Turner, who has worked at The Wolseley and alongside Michel Roux at The Waterside Inn. Pre-selected by yourselves ahead of the evening, this dinner is a fantastic vehicle to sample more wines, with an expert on hand throughout dinner to provide perfectly matching beverages for each course.
