There are a lot of advantages to coming to Europe in the springtime. First of all, you’ll save a lot of money on flights, accommodation and other expenses in the shoulder season. Also, there will be fewer crowds around many of the biggest attractions.

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

With its lovely canals, abundance of bicycles and brightly coloured tulips, Amsterdam is perfect for a spring getaway. Take a boat tour down the canal or a bike ride through the city and check out some of the many lovely cafes, shops and bars. Sit out in the spring sunshine on a patio and enjoy a beer or a smoke and then visit the fascinating Anne Frank House Museum or the Van Gogh Museum.

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest is a beautiful city with a lot to offer. It’s a lovely spa city so you can pamper yourself with beauty treatments in luxurious surroundings. It is also alive with culture and there are many fascinating UNESCO World Heritage sites to visit – from the banks of the Danube to the Castle district. Take a walk over to Margaret Island in the middle of the river or hike up to the top of Gellert Hill, which has the best views of Budapest.

  Europe, off the Beaten Path

Lisbon, Portugal

In spring the weather in Lisbon is bright and sunny – perfect for exploring the historic narrow cobblestones of this beautiful city. Lisbon is a lively capital filled with sunny outdoor cafes, majestic cathedrals, Moorish and Roman ruins and yellow trams clattering through the streets. Just outside of the city there are plenty of great day trips, from gorgeous beaches to seaside villages to enchanting woodlands.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Spring is a great time to visit the gorgeous “Pearl of the Adriatic.” In the early days of March the Dubrovnik Carnival Fest takes place and turns the city into a vibrant masked ball with classical musicians and dancers performing in the streets. Take a walk around the two kilometre wall that surrounds the city, which offers you a view of the ancient monasteries, baroque churches and aristocratic palaces.

Ljubljana, Slovenia

How about this off the beaten track European city for your spring getaway? When the spring months come around the riverside walkways and cobbled streets will come alive with energy. It’s a compact, friendly and easy to navigate city and its Baroque architecture is simply stunning. Pay a visit to the beautiful hilltop castle that overlooks the town.

These are just a few of the best cities in Europe to visit in the springtime, so why not take a trip this year as the snow thaws and see them in this beautiful and sunny season?
